Present and Future

Altotonga, Mexico -- What gorgeous weather we've had! I know it's a small thing, but it is so nice when you can feel your toes all day long! Well, it's been a week like any other.

Last week Chris was gone for a prayer conference in Tabasco (not the sauce, the state-- where there was all that flooding), so I went about things as normal. The afternoon sessions at the club seemed a little slow, but Friday evening we were really busy and it was good.Friday afternoon I had my discipleship time with Rosa. We're going through the 40 days of purpose thing and we were talking about how God has a purpose or a mission for everyone. So I asked her, what do you think about that? What do you think God wants you to do? And she said, you know, I've been thinking about this, and after I finish nursing school, I want to be a missionary. I was like ?!?!?!?! :D I was really excited to hear that. Praise God! We need more on the field! I told her she could work in Japan with me some day.

Saturday my dance girls did a lot better in class, which I was relieved and happy to see. We're doing a piece during the concert in February. That afternoon I had the lesson. I talked about Connect 4. For more, email me.

And things have continued from there about the same as usual. Today I gave my first official English class. I have 2 students, and it's not so much for evangelism or anything. It's something that one needs to learn and the other one really wants to learn. But it's something that I want to use in the future to work with. But the regulations are getting stricter and experience is required. So, I'm putting my class that I took in November to use and am learning to teach English. I don't use any Spanish, because supposedly it takes 6 times longer to learn if you have someone doing the work of figuring it out for you.Other than that, I've been in contact with some missionaries in Tokyo. Right now, we're just chatting, but I am hoping to visit them. Next January I am planning a scouting trip of about 2 weeks to Japan to do just that-- scout it out and contacts and get a feel for the area. Well, I am going to send my English students their homework via email. So, I am going to get to that.

Today is 1-23

Altotonga, Mexico -- What a long day! But a good day. Tammy left today after being here a week (that's not the reason why today was a good day). So, our day started at 5:30.Well, it was nice to have Tammy here this last week.

Things were a little different schedule-y than I'm used to, but nonetheless good and hectic. Tammy got to enjoy all the wonderfully good things of Altotonga, especially the food, and including the cold! So I understand not as cold as St. Louis, but like the last blog entry was put...We also took a bit to go to Veracruz... I took my day off. It was so wonderful. I was also able to see Dale talk to him and see the place where he and Kathy used to live. The family who lives there now is so kind. I like them. As they say in Spanish, me caen bien.

Tuesday evening we had garnachas with a couple of friends, including a new coworker of Cheli's (Cheli- short for Araceli-- my roommate). I was excited to be able to get to know her a little more and will be working in the coming weeks to get that friendship up and going.

Last week I worked on a project for half-page flyers to pass out in the high schools. It turned out really cool, and I was able to do it in black and white and have it look cool-- thereby saving money. I'm also working on another project, more just a spare time project, for the youth band from the Club-- CO2. I'm going to do the insert in the CD thing that has all the lyrics and stuff to the songs that they are recording. And then I'll be working on another collage-type thing to hang up in the Club. I really like these kinds of projects, if you aren't able to tell.I've gotten ahold of a contact in Japan, some missionaries who have been working there quite a while... and then a student in Japan. She seems like a nice girl, and is a Christian. So, I'm working along those lines. I just need a bit more time to study Japanese!!

This week Chris is out of town at a men's prayer conference (though the women were invited too)... So, I'm doing things at the Club. And this weekend, I'm doing the teaching, which will be on Connect 4. More to come on that in the next blog.

Inspector Gadget

Altotonga, Mexico -- What a long day it's been! I've been up and running since 7:30 this morning... and not with a break. Life is short, you have to take advantage of it! :)

Well, Nathan, our visitor (well, the Briles' visitor) left yesterday and we went to Veracruz. I took advantage of my day off (haha) and went with them. We didn't do too much, but it was so nice to get away from here for a few hours. I had Altotonga-fever... like cabin fever.

Today I talked with Chris and Vonda in our weekly business meeting about the decisions and goals and ideas and vision and how to carry that out for "taking over" the Club. Really, I'm just going to be the transitionary person. But in that, I want to see other things developed and a couple of ministries sprung up. And beside, transition is a job all in itself!

It's been the work of several months, praying, planning, writing. So, I presented this to the Briles and it seems like a great plan. We're going to talk to the Pastor of the local church and see what input and expectations he has and rework any details that may need to be reworked.

Other than that-- my rather big news for the week, I've met a few new people through my roomate-- people that she's working with. And I'm excited to develop those relationships and share Christ with them... though it may take a bit to get to that point.

Tomorrow I'm heading to Mexico City to pick up Tammy, who will be here for a week. I'm looking forward to spending time with her!Well, I am going to get. I think my hot water should be warmed up and then I'm going to shower and crawl in bed! It's been a long day, I've managed to catch a cold... and it should be a long travel day tomorrow. Fun times!!!By the way, I was trying to think of a title for this blog entry and Inspector Gadget came to my mind... so, that explains the title. What it doesn't explain is why that was running through my head... but that's a subject for another day...

Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu!!

Altotonga, Mexico -- Ok, so I just realized how incredibly long it's been since I've posted anything on here!!! I'm so sorry! Well, let's update then.

Christmas came and went. I got a couple of packages which was really cool (A million thanks). A friend arrived (a visitor of the Briles) the day after Christmas. We always bantar (clearly in fun), and so it's been a bit fun to be that sarcastic American. :)

I would also like to note the amazing weather we had up till the end of the year.New Years-- whoa-boy. That was a good evening-- It was a safe place for the kids for the night-- and some of them who were complaining about the possibility of it being boring-- they had a great time that night. Of course, we spent some time praising God, evaluating our relationship with God at this point, and setting goals and hopes for the coming year! I sure have hopes for this year!

8am rolled around, we cleaned up and headed home!!! And about that time, a vicious cold front moved in. And for many days we have had ugly, ugly, ugly weather-- in the 30s and low 40s, rainy, foggy, misty, ick. Ok, I know you're saying, 30s and 40s?? That's nothing! But, wait now-- back home ya'll get to escape into your heated homes. In my house, it was between 40 and 45 degrees. Compare it to sleeping outside.

Thursday and Friday we took some time to go up to the Cofre of Perote, about 1.5 hours away from Altotonga-- to play in the snow-- and enjoy the absolutely beautiful view of the area (we were up about 14,000 ft.)

Last Saturday, our girls finished our dance piece that we are getting ready for the event in February. I've had increased interest in this class-- so I'm looking forward to how many more opportunities I'll have to share with girls come after the concert-- when the girls will have a great chance to present in front of a large crowd.I've been able to develop some great relationships and share Jesus with more and more youth.

I've had quite a few youth-- particularly the young ladies-- come to me for advice lately. I'm hoping to start a discipleship book with 2 other girls-- it starts out with salvation. So, please be praying for them. So, ya'll know I want to go to Japan, right? I've been doing a lot of research-- as I'm hoping to plan an explore/make contacts/learning trip in a year. I've also been studying Japanese and it's coming along pretty well. I really enjoy the challenge of it. By the way-- the title is Happy New Year but in Japanese.

Don't worry-- I haven't lost focus of what's going on here or why I'm here-- but God is awakening my heart to a new culture and a great need for His Name to be carried into a darkened country.Well, I wish you all the very best in this coming year! May you be blessed and may you come to know Jesus in a newer, fresher, and a more intimate way in this year! Could you really ask for more??
